Room 101 Limited was established in January 1998. At that time, we found that most of the people who talked to us were starting from scratch; launching their web presence for the first time with only a rough idea of what their website should look like and what they wanted it to do for their business.

Here in the 21st Century, the position is a lot more evolved, and we're talking to clients in widely differing circumstances. For instance:

You may have an idea for a new website, and have researched how this idea will fit into the online world in terms of potential rival websites, how it will strike the marketplace, and what level of response you anticipate. Your idea may be complex, and you're wondering whether to launch the full website in one fell swoop, or to test the market with an introductory website which keeps some of your ideas in reserve for later.

Perhaps your company has commissioned a website in the past, which has been running for a year or two, but you feel that it doesn't fully promote your company as you would wish. Maybe your full range of products and services isn't covered, or perhaps the site hasn't been updated frequently and contains out-dated information. Maybe your company has changed its corporate identity and the website hasn't kept pace. Or perhaps the site is purely providing information when you feel it should be more affirmatively selling your products and services, and generating real sales leads or sales.

You may be satisfied with your current site as far as it goes, but you feel it would benefit from one or two add-ons, such as a user registration facility, members area or discussion forum. You want the new add-ons to blend into your existing design in a seamless fashion.

Maybe your original web design company did a great job, but didn't have the resources or infrastructure to take on the responsibility of regular monthly maintenance. A new website is invariably hungry for up to date information, and it's important to keep up the momentum after your internet launch. It's hard to maximise your investment in internet promotion if your site is starved of current information. The more detailed your product or service description, the more likely it will need to be constantly tweaked and polished regularly.
